The crowds have been thronging the special counter that has been set up at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital or KMCH to get the drug Remedisivir.

The news now is that the Remedesivir counter would be shifted to the Nehru Stadium in Chennai and this would help in controlling the crowds. This was informed by the TN government to the HC of Madras yesterday.

Complaints were made by the counsels present regarding the counter at the hospital that was crowded whereas those in other cities weren’t functional. Yesterday, Advocate General, Mr. R. Shanmugasundaram made the submission in the virtual hearing before the first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy amidst the above said complaints.

The Advocate General denied the allegations and mentioned that the counters in the other cities were functional. He explained that to tackle the huge crowd the Remedisivir counter was being shifted to Nehru Stadium and it would have 20000 vials of Remedisivir.

It was later pointed out by the Chief Justice Mr Banerjee that currently there is not much hue and cry regarding non-availability of the drug. He added that the craze for Remedesivir has gone down among the public as they have come to know that Remedivir might not be a life saving drug but of limited efficacy. The TN government has been asked by the Chief Justice to keep the vaccinating centre and testing centres away from the hospitals due to logistical considerations. By this, there would be less chance for the public to get infected by the infection.
