NO panic buying witnessed among the Chennaites due to total lockdown - Chances of lockdown extending

Beginning from 10th May, the residents of Chennai and TN would be under complete lockdown till 24TH of May 2021. This has not created any panic amongst the residents now.

It must not be forgotten that in 2020 when the total lockdown was imposed in Chennai and TN many panicked as it was the first time.

Some residents spoke about how they did not have any panic this time due to total lockdown in Chennai. There are a lot more online orders now and due to this the traders were also not affected.

As per the owner of a grocery store in Shenoy Nagar in Chennai, in 2020 many people stood outside his store for hours together to get groceries for them. In 2021, ordering groceries through online has is being carried out by the residents. Two days has been given for the residents to prepare for the total lockdown this time. He concluded that panic buying has reduced now as the people from their last year experience would have known that the items would be available easily.

Items like rice and grains were most sought after items by the people. They also bought specific branded cooking items also in huge amounts. Door delivery has been preferred by most customers now to avoid overcrowding at the shops. As the events from 2020 are repeating now, the residents are having hope and despair. There are many in Chennai who now feel that the lockdown might be extended also if the Coronavirus infection could not be controlled in 2 weeks of total lockdown.
