Chennai based fish and meat markets witnessed huge crowds despite strict warnings

The wholesale and retail fish and meat markets in Chennai were full of people yesterday and this grabbed the eyeballs. Point is that the people wanted to stock up for the weekend and hence turned up in huge numbers at the markets.
As per the vendors, meeting the demand remained an issue. Information is that despite bringing in catch throughout the day there were supply based issues. It was later pointed out by a person belonging to Akila Indhiya Meenavar Sangam that over the weekends more supply would be there. He added that many local fishermen opted to bring in whatever they caught for some profit and others have opted for other local markets for better sales. Truth is that there has been a supply of around 100 tonnes over the weekdays and this continued even on Friday.
On Friday, there were more pre-orders and deliveries and this was as per some private players. In anticipation for the weekend, TenderCuts recorded 5times increase in business. It is said that this store had to restock throughout the day to cater to the huge demand. Additional staff have been hired for this.
Founder and CEO of TenderCuts, Mr. Nishanth Chandran explained how 605 of their business come on the weekends only and how there was a huge demand on Friday. As many did not want to go out of their homes due to Covid-19 pandemic, the delivery orders were 80 to 90 percent. Pre-orders for delivery on Friday were also high.
