Kilambakkam in Chennai to have temporary vegetable market

In 2020, about 200 wholesale shops were shifted from Koyambedu to Thirumazhisai and now Kilambakkm has been chosen.
The Coronavirus infections have been spreading like fire now with more cases getting reported everyday in Chennai. Already 4000 mark of fresh cases have been broken in the city of Chennai.
In this scenario, if the shops needed to be shifted from the Koyambedu then Kilambakkam might house a temporary wholesale vegetable market.
It is learnt that atleast 300 shops could be set up in the MTC section across 36,200 sq ft at the GST Road near Vandalur. In Kilambakkam, there are shelters and 2 toilet blocks present at the MTC section with 12 platforms to park buses is known. It is easily possible to set up vegetable shops of area 200 sq ft to 250 sq ft here. The superb piece of information is that about 500 vehicles could be accommodated in the idle parking lot here.
Last year Thirumazhisai was chosen as the temporary vegetable market when Koyambedu became a hotspot for the Coronavirus infection. The construction of the third mofussil bus terminus has begun in Thirumazhisai and for this reason CMDA has chosen Kilambakkam now. In 2020, around 200 vegetable shops were moved to Thirumazhisai is well known to us.
