Guidelines released - reopening of schools after Pongal!

The task of obtaining feedback from various social segments – parents, teachers, students, and academicians – through a survey – regarding the reopening of schools has been in progress over the last few days. These meetings, conducted in schools to collect the feedback as above, will continue until 8th January.

Before the above activity, an emergency review meeting of the senior officials presided by the Dheeraj Kumar, Chief Secretary of the |Department of Education, Tamil Nadu State Government regarding this was conducted at the Chief Secretariat. It is gathered that an important decision was taken during this meeting regarding the reopening of schools.

The issue of reopening of schools after the Pongal Holidays only for the 10th & 12th Standards students has been reviewed. Subsequently, the Director of School Education, Kannappan, has sent a circular to all the District Primary Education Officers. Apart from this, in case the schools are reopened, the guidelines to be followed after reopening have also been released:

  • Classes must be conducted 6 days a week.
  • There must not be more than 25 students per class. As such, groups of 25 students may be formed before commencing classes.  The students must be seated in their classes following the social distancing norm.
  • If the students prefer to pursue only online cases, they may be permitted to do so!
  • Private schools may reopen only after due approval from the officials of the Government Education Department.
  • Written approval from the parents is very essential for the students to attend classes in school.
  • School attendance need not be made compulsory.
  • Students and parents must wear facial masks while coming to schools.
  •  Students will be given Vitamin and Iron tablets/pills through the Health Department of the State Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • Do not follow the biometric procedure for attendance.
  • The School Complex must be kept clean applying sanitisers as per the coronavirus pandemic prevention procedure.
  • Schools must list the telephone numbers and details for emergency help, emergency medical help, and the nearest government Heath Centres/hospitals and keep them for ready and immediate reference in case required.
