Medavakkam in south Chennai is an important residential locality and is making news now.

Work has been going on in the flyover in Medavakkam in Chennai now. This work would get completed by the end of the month of January. It must be noted that this flyover would be 1.5km in length and would be 3 laned. Point is when the work gets completed then the traffic would be allowed from Velachery to Tambaram. Approach ramps and the last of 31 deck slabs are being constructed now.

It is now mentioned that when the works get over then this flyover would allow the motorists to cross Sholinganallur and Medavakkam junctions. It has been brought out by some sources belonging to the Highways Department that once when this side gets opened for the traffic then the department would be able to focus more on the finishing works on the other side of the flyover.

Information is that the other side would be 2.5m in length and it would allow motorists from Tambaram to Velachery. The source clearly explained about how the flyover could cross 3 junctions like Sholinganallur-Medavakkam, Medavakkam- Mambakkam and Mount-Medavakkam junctions.

Land acquisition going on:
Seventy deck slabs have been completed out of a total of 80 deck slabs. The land acquisition is now in the advanced stage for the remaining stretch. In another 3 months, this flyover would be fully completed. It was in the year 2016 the work to construct 2 flyovers on the Velachery-Tambaram road started. This work was halted for some time in the month of May in 2018 when the contractor wanted to exit from this project. In March 2019, the flyover construction work started again after fresh bids were floated and a new contractor took over. A time of 21 months was provided for the new contractor to complete the works. Rs 300 crores is the project cost.
