Today, 31st December - Bars and hotels in Chennai to be shut down after this time - NO New Year celebrations allowed

The New Year has been eagerly anticipated across the world and the people are gearing to celebrate this special day with their families and friends. Every year in Chennai, there would be many parties and gatherings on the night of 31st December and on 1st January. In this year 2020 the Coronavirus pandemic situation created many issues for the people.

Chennai police commissioner, Mr. Mahesh Agarwal, on Wednesday mentioned that the movement of the residents would be curtailed on the roads and beaches on the night of Thursday. He hinted about 10,000 police personnel to be deployed in Chennai to watch the public closely.

There would be additional deployment of policemen and additional check points in the Chennai city. He spoke about how the movement of the vehicles on the Kamarajar Salai and on the ECR would be regulated. It is known that celebrations for the New Year have been prohibited on the beaches, roads etc. After 10 pm, the movement of the public in the above said places would be stopped.

Iron barricades to be placed:
Information is that once the normal traffic is over on the roads the n iron barricades would be put to close the roads and stop the movement. The roads would not be allowed to be used for the celebrations.  The police commissioner then highlighted that they have asked the bars, hotels and restaurants to be closed by 10 and not to have any programme after that time. Standard protocols for operation of hotels and restaurants would be enforced.
