QR code based payment facility for bus tickets in two buses in Chennai!! Sound’s interesting isn’t it!!

On Monday, 1st June 2020, the TN transport minister, Mr. M.R. Vijayabhaskar announced that MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation has introduced QR code based payment facility for tickets in 2 routes like T, Nagar to Secretariat and Saidapet to Secretariat on trial basis. This has been regarded as an step towards digital payments.

It is now said that depending on the feedback got from the passengers and conductors, this digital payment would be extended to buses of other routes in Chennai too. Near the entrance and near conductor seat, QR code has been pasted and by suing the smart phones the passengers must scan the code as soon as they enter the bus through rear side entrance.

In the next step, the conductor would enquire about the destination and suggest the ticket fare that must be paid for the travel. GooglePay, PayTm, Amazon Pay or any other UPI recognised by the banks etc could be used by the passengers to pay for their ticket rates. Payment confirmation would be received by sound box in the bus integrated with the mobile phone of the conductor.

For every payment made or received, both passenger and conductor would get message from the bank. Double confirmation would be there by this method. This was as per an official belonging to the MTC. The official spoke about how on Monday just the government officials traveled in the MTC buses in Chennai and how there was no issue with regard to the payment for the tickets by the new method.

Information is in rural places the passengers might not have a smart phone and digital payment for tickets might not be possible.  A new way is now being formulated to overcome this issue in eh rural places.
