Posted on: 30/Dec/2019 9:35:09 AM
The schools in TN have started preparing the students studying in classes 5 and 8 for public examinations. The public examinations would be conducted at the end of the academic year is known. There was some opposition about conducting public examinations for these classes initially.

The point to be noted here are students of class 5 would be writing the examination in 3 subjects like Mathematics, English and Tamil and students of class 8 would be writing examinations in all their 5 subjects. For class 8, the public examinations would begin from the end of March in 2020 and for class 5 the public examinations would begin from April.

For the sake of avoiding pressure and stress due to the public examinations, parents and students of these classes were addressed. This was revealed by Mr Dinesh Babu, a teacher belonging to government school. He spoke about how for the weak students of class 8, additional coaching once in a week has been provided. He added that in the third term if any student needs help in any subject the teachers would help them.

Important information collected is few districts had considered holding special classes and conducting short tests on a daily basis but most schools have opted for extra coaching as per the student`s needs.

It was later mentioned by Mr. .PK. Illamaran, president of TN Teacher’s Association that through the first and second term, teachers have been providing extra questions to the students on their daily lessons. This was mainly done to help the students with the preparation and he wanted the students to treat it like a normal exam. The important point is the students would be tested based on the syllabus of three terms and not just the third term alone.

Mr K. R. Nandhakuamar, state general secretary, TN nursery, primary, higher secondary, matric and CBSE schools, hinted that the question papers for the board examinations would be simple and easy as this was the first time board exams would be conducted for these classes. The basics of the students would be evaluated by the board examinations. For many years now, many private schools have been using textbooks by private publishers.

It is now said that the schools that are making the switch to the textbooks printed by Textbook Corporation Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation in the third term have instructed the students to study first as well as second term books also.
