On the occasion of the New Year Break on Tuesday (31st December), security has been beefed up for monitoring and preventing untoward incidents/accidents in 100 places. Vehicle-checking will be carried out in 400 places in Chennai Metro City.

Vehicle-checking will be done in locations including Mylapore, Adyar, Kilpauk, Thiruvallikkeni, T Nagar, St. Thomas Mount, Flower Bazaar, Washermanpet, Madhavaram, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, and Puliyanthoppu from 9.00 PM on Tuesday .31st December to 4.00 AM on Wednesday, 1st January.

20 testing squads are being deployed to check and prevent  motor-cycle racing in Adyar, Guindy, Taramani, Neelankarai, and Thoraippakkam.

Further, 20 Highway/road safety squads will be patrolling the area riding on motorcycles.

Police security is being provided in 100 important places  such as temples, churches, and beaches..

In public-gathering places such as Marina, Santhome, and Neelankarai, police will patrol riding on ATV vehicles which can move on the sand. Surveillance cameras are also being installed in the beaches.

Horse-mounted security will monitor on the Marina Beach. An additional 10 roving vehicles will be deployed in each and every police station in the Chennai Metro City.

Roadblocks have been set up in 20 places in East Coast Road to prevent accidents. A similar arrangement of road-blocking has been done in 500 other places in order to prevent accidents.

Around 15000 police staff will be deployed on Tuesday night throughout the Chennai Metro City.  It may be noted that the Chennai Metro Police has already announced that stringent actions will be taken on the men who misbehave with women.

Complaints have received that unauthorised celebrations are done on the East Coast Road on the occasion of every New Year.

100s of bungalows exist in the East Coast Road areas in Vettuvankani, Enjambakkam, Akkarai, Panaiyur, Uthandi, Kanathur, and Muttukkadu. These bungalows have swimming pools, auditoriums, etc. These are being rented out. Some people take these bungalows on rent to celebrate the New Year break.

The Police Department gives the approval to conduct New Year Celebrations in some resorts, star hotels and bungalows. However, this approval is given with conditions to follow 16 strict regulations. The Police do not approve even if one of the 16 regulations are violated.

Thus, it is impossible to celebrate the New Year break in any resort without prior police approval.

However, complaints have been received from the public that New Year Break is celebrated in several bungalows in East Coast Road without prior Police Approval.

It is reported that wild New Year Break celebrations are performed  even in areas such Kanathur, Muttukkadu, Thiruvidantahi, and Kovalam which lie adjacent to the Chennai Metro Police boundary. The public has complained that these celebrations are wild and violent disturbing the peaceful environment in the area and also leading to some violence and clashes.
