Dry Velachery Residents made to wait long for water

Velachery residents are experiencing severe water scarcity trouble to such an extent that there are people who even migrate to other locales. There are quarrels and arguments with our neighbors, say a few Velachery residents.
The ‘To let’ boards are popping up around the corners as the tenants move to other areas, says one of the Adambakkam residents.
One of the main concerns is insufficient drinking water. In the past few months, there is severe water scarcity. This leaves all the residents irksome.
There was no process of reservation for getting water, but now it has become mandatory to get weekly bookings done. Making the most of the situation, private lorries price a load of water at 1800 INR, complaint residents.
We have restrictions, say private lorry suppliers. They add that the government imposes a lot of restrictions to supply water to specific areas as there is heavy demand this year. There are annual regular customers we usually deal with. In addition, we are unable to cater to new orders because of the government-imposed restrictions. The charge per 12,000 litre water is about Rs 2,500, they add.
There is really erratic water supply in the past 3 months. We are left with no other way than to wait for 10 to 15 days for private lorry water. Worsening the scenario is the increase in population in the nearby localities. We are insisting the civic body in the same regard.
The constant confusion is that select areas receive water supply whereas the others do not receive water regularly. Due to heavy water shortage issues, there are frequent quarrels and arguments among neighbors, say people. If we book today, the water supply is available only after 20 days, complaint sources from Residents’ Welfare Association in Indira Nagar. There is lot of suffering at private offices, hostels, old age homes, etc.
