Changes in the TET examination procedures

The syllabus for TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) for the recruitment of teacher is set to be changed. The state government department of school education has informed that these changes would take consideration of the changes in the syllabus in the classes.

As per the Central Government`s Right to Free Education, TET has been implemented throughout the country for the recruitment of teachers.

As per the orders of the National Education Council, TET was implemented in Tamil Nadu in the year 2011.

On behalf of the State Government Department of School Education, TET – Teachers’Eligibility Test for the recruitment of school teachers – was conducted by the Teachers’ Recruitment Board (TRB) in February 2018.

More than 7 Lakhs candidates participated.

In the current academic year, TET is scheduled to be conducted on 6th and 7th October. It was earlier announced in the yearly announcement schedule that the announcement for this TET would be made in July. However, due to various reasons including some maloperations, the TRB activities were stalled for more than 6 months.

Following this news being published in the newspapers 2 weeks earlier, TRB has now galvanized into action to conduct TET. Thus, the activities of conducting TET have started.

However, this TET would not follow the syllabus/format practised over the last 13 years and more, and as per the order of the state government department of school education, the format and the procedure would be changed as per the revised syllabus in the classes.

The expert academicians observed regarding this that the standards and quality of school education in Tamil Nadu has already declined. In this situation, if teachers selected through TET following the old syllabus format, this quality will further go down. So, only if TET is conducted considering the new syllabus, the teachers recruited would be able to conduct the classes as per the revised syllabus in a better manner.

As people from various sectors have insisted on this aspect, a decision has been taken to revise the TET question format duly considering the new syllabus.
