As there is increasing number of online transactions, there are simultaneously increasing incidences of hacking, ransomware, debit frauds, credit frauds, ATM fraudulence and many other kinds of cybercrimes increasing day by day. So, in this digital universe, it is absolutely inescapable to be super-cautious to prevent yourself from all kinds of financial losses and cases of fraudulence.

So, here are some of the ways in which you can prevent cybercrime from happening to you:

Do not make any kind of financial transaction from a cyber café or a shared computer or using public Wi-Fi.

Ensure to install firewalls and anti-virus software to your computer system. Keep the operating system and security patches updated in your home PC.

Make sure to abide by the instructions as mentioned by the financial institution (including mutual funds, banking, payment wallet, etc.) when you want to set passwords or pin numbers. Do not set those with your date of birth or anniversary or year or nouns of people closely related to you as they can be very easily guessed.

Regarding mails that seek your financial information, be very cautious. No such mail will be sent from any government body, or SEBI or RBI or other regulated entities.

When you receive any mail with links that pretend to be from genuine sources, never trust and never click the links present.

Never share your passwords with anyone and never communicate the same through social media.

Check out the SSL on the login page of bank’s site. In this, the S after HTTP indicates that the site is completely secure. Likewise, check out the signs of identification verification of online shopping sites and SSL security that will protect your card number and other personal information. Check also for padlock icon in the browser.

In case of any unauthorized or suspicious usage of your card, immediately intimate your card provider or bank without any delay.
