UDAN is soon set to get launched. It is a new term for the Narendra Modi government to connect small cities and town with long journey flights at price as low as Rs 2,500, yes – you read it right.

UDAN stands for Udega Desh Ka Aam Nagrik. This is among the new civil aviation policies that got launched in June and it aims at enhancing regional connectivity. As a move to initiate this connectivity scheme, 22 airports most of which are either unused or underused are selected. These contain infrastructure like terminal building, traffic control towers, fire services, etc available readymade. Here, the flight services are set to begin immediately.

The list of 22 airports is inclusive of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar in Gujarat, Bikaner and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, Bhatinda and Pathankot in Punjab, inter alia.

Airlines will be asked for bidding for connecting small towns or cities. For flight services of an hour journey, the price will be fixed at Rs 2,500 per head. In case if the price exceeds, the difference amount will be paid by the government itself.
