Increase in number of seats for graduate courses in member colleges of Chennai University

Chennai University has taken a decision to increase the number of seats offered by its member colleges for graduate courses as quite a large number of applications have been received for joining these courses.

The meeting of the syndicate members of Chennai University was conducted yesterday (Tuesday, 14th June).

The syndicate Council head and the state government’s secretary for higher education, Apoorva presided over the meeting. Chennai University Registrar P David Jawahar led the event.The director of technical education S Madhumathi and director of education Sekhar participated in the meeting.The meeting started at 2.30 PM and ended at 4.00 PM.

Chennai University registrar David Jawahar had a session with the press reporters regarding the major decisions taken during the meeting.

He informed that more applications have been received for arts and science graduate courses this year as compared to applications for engineering courses. So, the syndicate has taken a decision to increase the number of seats offered for admission in graduate courses in arts and science.

As per this decision, the number of seats offered by the member colleges for the courses.of B A, BBA, B Com, and B Sc. The colleges need not apply to the Chennai University for this purpose.
 
The increase in the number of seats in self-financed private colleges will be 10 percent. In Government-aided colleges, it ill be 15 percent. In government colleges, it will be 20 percent.

Detailed information regarding this will be sent to all member colleges. 

The colleges may offer these extra seats during this current academic year (2016-17) itself.
