ST THOMAS CHURCH CHENNAI IS NOW A NATIONAL SHRINE

The St Thomas Mount Church Our Lady of Expectation` has been accorded National Shrine of India status by the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India; accorded by the bishops on January 8 in the presence of Salvatore Pinocchio, the ambassador of Pope Benedict XVI, deputy chief minister M K Stalin and religious leaders.
This is the second church in Chennai to be accorded the National Shrine Status; the other church is the St Thomas Cathedral Basilica at Santhome which got the status in 2006.
