The Government Rapid Transport Corporation is rolling out a new initiative to enhance passenger convenience and embrace technological advancements. In a bid to streamline ticket purchases and minimize cash-related disputes, the Tamil Nadu government plans to introduce UPI-based ticket payments on its buses.

Passengers will now have the option to buy tickets through UPI, facilitating smoother transactions and reducing dependency on cash. Conductors will be equipped with QR code-enabled ticket printing machines, allowing passengers to make payments directly from their phones. This feature, currently on trial in Chennai city buses, is set to expand gradually across other key areas including Trichy, Salem, Madurai, Nellai, and Coimbatore.

With the widespread use of digital payment platforms like Google Pay and PhonePe, this initiative is expected to greatly benefit commuters, offering a seamless and convenient ticketing experience. The government aims to implement this service across all transport corporations within the next three years, catering to passengers from bustling metros to remote villages.
