Cancer could also occur in the genito-urinary system!!

Point is when compared to other types of cancers like head and neck, breast, oral, cervix and gastric system, genito-urinary cancers are less common but they too create issues and affect the quality of lives.

During the weekend, Cancer Institute of India (WIA) and Califormia based Stanford University would be organising an international update on uro-oncology 2020. The main objective of this meet was to promote better understanding of uro-oncology and to share the knowledge among the doctors.

It is important to note that uro-oncology covers cancers of kidneys, urinary bladder, ureter, testes, penis and prostrate glands etc. It was pointed out by Dr. Anand Raja, associate professor surgical oncology, Cancer Institute, that in India commonest cancers were breast, oral cavity and gastric system. He added that lots of attention is being given to these types of cancers in India.

Dr. Anand Raja brought to light about how urological cancers were uncommon and there was not enough awareness about regarding urological cancers. He was of the view that these urological cancers could also affect the quality of life of a person. Urological cancers accounted for 75000 new cancer cases every year in India and this was confirmed by T.G. Sagar, director emeritus of the institute.
