Avoid eating spicy foods as they might cause dementia

Are you one of those who like eating spicy foods? Then please be careful.

It is now revealed that consuming spicy foods could result in dementia. Most Indians like to eat spicy foods is well known. It was shown by a study that intake of spicy foods might not be good for the brain health. It must be noted that researchers have taken 4582 adults of China above the age of 55 for study purpose.

Point is those who ate consistently 50 gms of chilli in a day showed faster decline of their cognitive abilities. It is important to mention that the cognitive decline was faster in those who were slim. It was pointed out by the research study that those people who consumed more than 50 gms of chilli had double the risk of memory and cognitive decline.

Capsaicin is an important component present in the chillies and it is known that this component plays a superb role in boosting the metabolism plus in lowering the body weight, improving our heart health etc. It is worth mentioning that this is first study that showed the association between chilli component and health of the brain.

As per the lead author of the study, Zumin Shi of Qatar University it is clear that consumption of chillies was beneficial for the body weight and for blood pressure and this was from the studies in the past. He added that in this present study adverse effect on cognition among the older adults was found by chilli intake.

One important information is in this study chilli was defined as fresh and dried chilli peppers but not black pepper or sweet capsicum. It has been shown by the research study that those people who consumed more chillies had lower BMI and were more physically active than those who consumed less amounts of chilli. Point is people who are normal body weight were found to be more sensitive to chilli and consumed less of chilli than those people who were overweight.

According to Dr. Sahli Kohli, a consultant in neurology, Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Gurugram, long term consumption of chillies of more than 50gms per day might have significant effect on the memory.
