If you are unable to say cheese with confidence, you are probably having poor dental health and dental hygiene. There may be serious gum diseases or horribly terrifying breath may be a symbol of underlying impurities in your body.

Listed below are a few tips to get your dental hygiene right and stay safe :

Do you brush every day?

You have to brush your mouth and not just the teeth. Your mouth does not only comprise of your teeth, but there is the tongue, roof of mouth, and others to take care of. So you need to clean it entirely.

If you have not done this until now, start doing it from today.

While brushing, hold the toothbrush at 45 degree angle so that the gum lines can be cleaned. While doing so, the bristles get in touch with teeth as well as gums. Make up and down, and back and forth movement. Keep repeating the same procedure all over the teeth and gum areas.

This should be followed by cleaning out the tongue and roof of the mouth. This action will help get rid of bacteria present/developed overnight (which mostly results in bad breadth). While brushing, do not be harsh in using the brush. Instead, be gentle and light such that the bristles do not attack the inside areas of the mouth. It is also recommended that you brush two times a day: once in the morning and once at night.

Are you in proper diet?

Your diet should not just be friendly to your stomach, but also teeth. We often eat for taste and not mainly for hunger. And that’s fine too! But you need to consider taking foods and snacks that act good on your teeth. You may have cheese, chicken, fruits, nuts, etc. all of which are friendly on your teeth. Items like cheese will produce more saliva in your mouth which helps in neutralizing acid.

Say bye to Sodas and alcohol

Cannot say bye to these items? At least limit them.

Tobacco? It is a definite NO! you can prevent yourself from chronic periodontal complications (like the oral cancer) by completely eliminating use of tobacco. Further, there is the habit of consuming tea, sweets or coffee so that the smell of tobacco gets subsided. These in turn will double up the impact of tobacco which is already harmful.

You also need to curb the use of alcoholic products and sodas as they are high in phosphorous content. Note that phosphorous is a key component of these sodas and alcohol, but consuming too much of it is unhealthy, as you know ‘too much of anything is not good’. By consuming excess quantities of these drinks, it will lead to depletion of body’s calcium content which results in dental hygiene troubles like gum diseases or tooth decay.

You may rather opt for beverages that help in strengthening the enamel in teeth and keeps your body hydrated as compared to simply sugary drinks.

If you are badly addicted to sodas and cannot avoid it at once, you may choose to drink it in straws so that the liquid does not get in contact with your teeth and cause damage.

Regular flossing is recommended

If you make sure to brush your teeth regularly, congratulations! You are being good to your dental health. But you are also responsible to do a lot more. With brushing, you can keep your teeth clean, but it is not so with the minute gaps between teeth. This is why flossing is imperative. Flossing will help you flush out the residues of food items you have had along with other substances and sediments that have got accumulated in the teeth. So, if you want to take proper care and protect your dental health, you need to floss at least once a day.

Flossing also helps in protecting your teeth from cavities and occurrence of gum disease. It completely remove plaque which is the culprit that eventually causes tartar.

Do not know what is flossing and how to do it?

To do flossing, you need a soft string. This has to be inserted in the gaps of teeth and moved in up and down motions such that he accumulated substances are taken out.

Do this before bedtime

Do you know the benefits of fluorides? They help in giving your teeth good strength. So, it is advised that you brush your teeth before bedtime with fluoride. A lot of people hate the smell of toothpaste in their mouth throughout the day. In fact you may swallow it by mistake. Hence this cannot be done in the morning while brushing. So, we recommend practicing this at night. Bedtime is far better to practice the habit. Make use of fluoride to clean the teeth. This should not be rinsed off at once. Instead let it sit on the teeth without getting rinsed.

In case you have just finished your dinner and have got the food residue inside the mouth, then get brushing done twice. During the first brushing, the food residues will go off and the second time you brush, just spit out the excessive toothpaste and allow the residue remain on the e teeth without rinsing with water.
