Oil pulling - All you need to know

Oil pulling is the process of swishing sesame or coconut oil in your mouth as soon as you wake up, before you brush your teeth.

As per ayurveda, oil pulling has many benefits including detox, strengthening gums, teeth and jaw, stimulating the immune system with anti oxidants present in the oil, preventing heart disease, clearing sinuses, giving relief for migraines and headaches, treating arthritis and related illnesses, improving sleep, freshening breath and preventing tooth decay.

So how do you practice oil pulling? In the morning before breakfast on an empty stomach, pour 10ml of oil in the mouth. Swish and swirl the oil around your mouth for 15-20 minutes. As the oil is pulled through the teeth and swished around the mouth, bacteria hiding under the gums and in between the teeth are pulled out and trapped in the solution. The longer the swishing takes place the more bacteria are absorbed into the solution from the mouth. When the solution turns white, like milk, it indicates the bacteria and toxins have been removed from the mouth.
