According to a new study, one can reduce the risk of breast cancer by a hug extent of up to 40 percent by consuming Mediterranean diet. The results of the study were published in the International Journal of Cancer. Over 62,000 women were observed over 2 decades time period and the effect of what they consume in causing breast cancer was deeply observed.

Those who consumed Mediterranean diet including plant protein, olive oil, fish, etc were more prone to develop ER-negative breast cancer than those who consumed the diet in its least level.

This disease is not something that the sex hormone stimulates. Hence, it becomes harder to treat as compared to cancers that are hormone sensitive, and they are fatal too.

Nearly 30 percent women have ER-negative cancers and over 55,000 women in the UK are diagnosed to have breast cancer. In the UK, there are 11,400 breast cancer victims losing lives annually.

What does Mediterranean diet have?
It includes a lot of plant based proteins like nuts, beans, fish, lentils, healthy monounsaturated fatty acids like those in olive oil, etc. There should be minimal consumption of refined grain foods like red meat, sweets, bread or white rice. Results of the study were published in the International Journal of Cancer.
