Reasons for delay in introduction of ‘Chapattis’ at Amma Canteens

The plan to start serving chapattis at Amma canteens has been delayed by several months.
Amma canteens have been serving in 200 wards in Chennai city . There was a proposal by the state government to introduce chapattis in the evenings. It was to start from last September, 2013. But it has been delayed.
Machinery shortage?
Machines were purchased for making more chapathis at the same time in the round shape. Test run was also conducted. 15 machines were procured. However, production has not started.
It appears that one machine per ward will not be sufficient to make the required demand. 30000 chapathis are required in each ward. A single machine cannot handle this demand. If that single machine breaks down, production will come to a complete stop. A standby machine will be required. Hence, purchase of additional machines for wach ward is under consideration. This is the reason for the delay. Even if the single machine can be relied to handle the demand, the test run of the machines has not been completed.
