Chennai Launches Premium AC Electric Bus Service - Seat Booking via Chennai One App
The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has launched a new premium AC electric bus service in Chennai, marking the first time such a luxury public transport facility has been introduced by the state transport corporation in the city.
According to officials, the service was developed based on passenger feedback collected through the Chennai One app managed by the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority. The premium buses are low-floor, air-conditioned electric buses designed to offer a comfortable and modern travel experience.
These buses feature luxury seating, free Wi-Fi connectivity, advanced safety systems, and dedicated wheelchair spaces for differently-abled passengers. The buses are also introduced as conductor-less services, where passengers must book their seats only through the Chennai One mobile app.
In the first phase, the premium buses are operating on two major routes:
Koyambedu – Siruseri IT Park (Route 570S)
Kilambakkam – Thiruvanmiyur (Route 91)
The minimum fare is ₹50, while the maximum fare is ₹150 depending on the travel distance.
Officials said that if the service receives a good response from passengers, the premium electric bus service will be expanded to more routes across Chennai in the coming months.
