Gold prices witnessed a sharp surge today, reaching new record highs. In the morning, the price of 22-carat gold jewellery increased by ₹2,800 per sovereign, selling at ₹1,14,000. Within the next three hours, it rose further by ₹1,320 per sovereign, taking the price to ₹1,15,320. The per gram price increased from ₹14,250 to ₹14,415. In a single day, gold prices rose by ₹4,120 per sovereign, marking a new all-time high.
International investors are increasingly turning to gold and silver as safe-haven assets, driving global prices higher and reflecting strongly in the Indian market. Earlier, on January 19 in Tamil Nadu, gold was sold at ₹13,450 per gram after a rise of ₹170, and ₹1,07,600 per sovereign after an increase of ₹1,360. Silver had increased by ₹8 per gram to ₹318 and by ₹8,000 per kilogram to ₹3.18 lakh.
Silver prices also showed an upward trend today. In the morning, silver was sold at ₹340 per gram and ₹3.40 lakh per kilogram without any change. By 1 PM, the price increased by ₹5 per gram to ₹345 and ₹3.45 lakh per kilogram.
