Seat-sharing negotiations for the BJP-led NDA ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are reportedly in their final stages, with a broad understanding said to have been reached between AIADMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
According to political sources, discussions held by senior AIADMK leaders with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman played a key role in shaping the talks. A preliminary arrangement reportedly allocates 30 seats to the BJP, 6 seats to the AMMK led by T. T. V. Dhinakaran, and 3 seats to the faction led by O. Panneerselvam.
However, reports suggest the BJP has sought six additional seats, to which the AIADMK is yet to give a final response. The AIADMK leadership, led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, is also said to have insisted that candidate details be shared in advance and that only half of the BJP’s seats be from constituencies of its choice.
With alliance talks nearing completion, political activity in Tamil Nadu is expected to intensify in the run-up to the 2026 elections.
