In the future, the public visiting the Nageswara Rao park in Chennai would be able to see refurbished gazebos, new reading spaces plus revived fountains and fully furnished badminton courts etc.
One of the important landmarks in Chennai is Nageswara Rao Park located on the Luz Church Road and this park is now making news.
It is now brought to light that GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation would be redeveloping this park with reading spaces and badminton courts etc at a cost of Rs 12.22 cr by the month of February 2026. Namakku Naame scheme has taken up the redevelopment work of Nageswara Road Park. The foundation stone was laid by the municipal administration and water supplies minister Mr. K. N. Nehru.
Next week, basic works like construction of uniform compound walls, repairing defunct lights and levelling the walkers train etc would begin. New facilities would also be added in this park.
It must be taken into account that the art and cultural expression especially during Margazhi season would be sensational. It is now mentioned that the public would be surprised to come across renovated gazebos, reading spaces, revived fountains etc here. This was according to GCC assistant engineer Mr. K. Kumaravel. He spoke about how Nageswara Rao Park would have additional facilities like CCTV cameras, RO facilities, shaded seating, entrance arch, a sprinkler system for plants etc
The feedbacks were taken from the children, senior citizens etc in the month long geotechnical survey conducted by Glency Docmra Consultants. The residents wanted better greenery, improved toilets and improved drainage system etc. The daily footfall in this park is huge. This was mentioned by Mylapore MLA Mr. Dha Velu.
It was explained by the GCC Teynampet zonal officer Mr. P. Banukumar that this park would be closed on and off during the construction works. He added that the park would be closed down temporarily to avoid inconvenience due to trail works. The makeover of Nageswara Rao Park by GCC has been welcomed by many residents. Other residents were unhappy regarding the closure of this park without prior notice.
