A shocker for the Chennaites now!!
In recent times, there have been no talks about Dengue fever. It is shocking to mention that Dengue fever is increasing silently across Chennai city.
Public have been advised not to leave rain water filled tires, broken bottles etc near their homes as these are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
In July in 2024, only 320 persons had Dengue fever but in July in 2025 as many as 520 persons have been affected by this fever. The reason for the increase in Dengue fever across Chennai is due to the rains since the June month. The rainwater that has accumulated in the small areas has provided the much needed breeding ground for the mosquitoes. The Dengue causing mosquitoes invade the houses despite many steps being taken to repel them.
In this scenario, the Chennai Corporation must accelerate its efforts to eradicate mosquitoes in Chennai. It is superb to mention here that the employees of GCC have been removing lots of garbage that has been providing a breeding ground for the Dengue mosquitoes.
The highest number of Dengue cases (110) has been reported in the Adyar zone followed by the Sholinganallur zone with 60 cases. The statistics have made it clear that Adyar zone continues to be at the top of the list of Dengue fever cases in Chennai every year.
In the clean water, the Dengue mosquitoes breed and the Chennai Corporation has now appealed to the residents to ensure that the drinking water tanks are covered. The residents must ensure that water doesn`t stagnate in small containers or ditches etc near the homes.
From August to October, dengue fever increases though it is present throughout the year. Truth is that the Dengue fever peaks in September- October months. The residents have been asked to be careful as dengue fever peak months are approaching.
