Uthiramerur Bypass Road Project Set to Alleviate Traffic Woes in Chennais Southern Suburbs!
In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion plaguing Uthiramerur, a bustling town in Chennai`s southern suburbs, the Tamil Nadu State Highways Department has greenlit plans for the construction of a new bypass road. With an estimated cost of 35 crores, the project aims to streamline traffic flow and enhance connectivity for motorists journeying towards key destinations such as Kancheepuram and Tiruvannamalai.
The proposed bypass road, spanning 4 kilometers, is poised to serve as a vital artery facilitating access to the region`s industrial hubs, including steel, cement, and textile industries. Anticipating a daily influx of approximately 7,000 vehicles, the thoroughfare will be designed as a two-lane road with paved shoulders, ensuring optimal usage and safety for commuters.
Addressing safety concerns at junctions where the bypass intersects with the existing state highway (SH-118), measures are underway to implement comprehensive safety protocols. A private firm will spearhead the installation of T-shape, Y-shape, and four-way intersections at four pivotal points along the route. Furthermore, the construction of four dedicated bus bays is slated to enhance traffic efficiency by minimizing disruptions caused by buses halting on the highway.
The progress of the project has garnered a sigh of relief from residents, including G. Sai, a prominent activist from Uthiramerur. Emphasizing the significance of circumventing potential delays stemming from land acquisition issues, Sai commended the swift advancement of the initiative, originally announced in 2018.
To expedite the process and mitigate potential setbacks, the highway department has earmarked approximately 7 crores from the project budget for land acquisition purposes. By prioritizing compensation settlements, authorities aim to circumvent delays and ensure seamless progression of the construction phase.
This endeavor marks the 17th bypass road project spearheaded by the Tamil Nadu state government this year, underscoring a concerted effort to decongest various towns across the state. Notable initiatives include projects in Bavani (Erode district), Kamudhi (Theni district), and Ambasamuthiram (Tirunelveli district), collectively representing a substantial investment of 2,824 crores.
With construction set to commence imminently, the Uthiramerur bypass road project stands as a testament to the state government`s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and fostering sustainable development across Tamil Nadu`s urban landscape.
