Chennai Metros Innovative Phase II Plan: Trains to Traverse 12-Storey Building in Thirumangalam!

Posted on: 18/Mar/2024 8:46:52 AM

In the second phase of the Chennai metro rail project, metro trains are set to traverse through a 12-storey building located in Thirumangalam. This innovative move is reminiscent of similar setups in countries like China.

Covering a total distance of 54 km across two routes in Chennai, the metro trains will operate at intervals along the 116.1 km stretch, facilitated by three channels.

Chennai Metro Rail Company officials have confirmed the acquisition of land for the building near the Thirumangalam flyover. The metro train is scheduled to pass through the 3rd floor of this building, integrating seamlessly into Line 5 of the Phase II Metro Rail Project, specifically the Madhavaram-Sholinganallur line.

To accommodate this development, a 450-meter parcel of land has been procured near the Thirumangalam flyover, previously occupied by three houses. A consultancy firm will be engaged to explore optimal utilization of the 12-storey structure. Tenders have been issued for this purpose, with plans underway to construct a metro station on the 4th floor of the building.

This multi-functional space will include a metro office, a shopping mall, and other amenities. Additionally, plans are in motion to erect buildings at Koyambedu and Thirumayilai. The construction costs for stations at these three locations are encompassed within the Phase 2 plan, with funding to be sought from the state government.
