As a large number of citizens are travelling to their native places to celebrate the Pongal Festival along with their dear & near, swarming crowd of passengers are seen in the Chennai Metro City Central, Egmore, and Tambaram Railway Stations!!

TRAIN TRAVEL

As more than 2 lakhs of passengers have undertaken the travel to different places, terrific acute traffic congestion is experienced on the main roads of the Chennai Metro City!

The series Pongal Festival is being celebrated for a sequence of 3 days from the 15th of January to the 17th of January! As such, citizens who had planned the Pongal Holiday trip to their native places started from Chennai Metro City to their respective native places along with family from yesterday (Friday, 13th January). Many of them are travelling today (Saturday, 14th January).

Due to the above travel rush, there were swarming crowds of travellers seen at the Chennai Metro City Central, Egmore, and Tambaram Railway Stations,

There was an intense struggle to capture seats/berths in the trains leaving for the Southern Districts of Tamil Nadu, especially in the unreserved compartments! The travellers had to wait in long queues to capture seats!

The Railway Officials have informed us that over the last 2 days alone (12th & 13th January) OVER 2 LAKHS PASSENGERS HAVE UNDERTAKEN TRAIN TRAVEL!!

BUS TRAVEL

Similarly, as a large number of passengers who booked bus tickets reach the Koyambedu Bus Terminus, there has been an extremely acute traffic jam!

Right from the shopping arcades of T Nagar in Chennai Metro City to  Kalkulam in Kanyakumari, teeming crowds are seen shopping for the special occasion of the Pongal Festival!
