Superb work by PWD now in Chennai anticipating fourth CORONAVIRUS wave

There have been some talks regarding the fourth Coronavirus infection wave that would be affecting many. This might happen in the month of June. The PWD or public works department doesn’t want to wait till the last minute and it has already started its work to help the patients.

In all the government hospitals in Chennai, the PWD has set up 240 ICU beds along with the oxygen support. In this month, the construction of a multi-speciality hospital at Kings Institute campus in Guindy would start.

According to an officer belonging to PWD, before Covid1-9 infection began there was a lesser number of ICU beds with oxygen support at various government hospitals. He added that in 2020 Coronavirus pandemic struck and many hospitals did not have enough ICU beds for the patients. The number of beds has been increased even before the second wave struck in 2021. He concluded that the health experts have warned about the fourth Coronavirus infection wave in June 2022 and due to this more beds have been arranged in the hospitals in Chennai.

For setting up of 240 ICU beds in various government hospitals in Chennai, PWD has allotted Rs 6 crores. Information is that the PWD has planned to increase the oxygen supply from 350 metric tonnes pre-Covid to 1241 metric tonnes at the government hospitals. At the KMCH in Chennai, PWD is constructing a 6 floor new block and it is now almost 40percent is completed. By the end of this year, the entire work would get over. An amount of Rs 135.50 crores is being spent for the construction of this six floor new building in KMCH. This building would have more operation theatres, ICUs, special burn wards etc. It must be taken into note that TNMSC has contributed medical accessories and other necessities etc for the hospital for Rs 185.50 crores.

It has come to light that the PWD is planning to build a 1000 bed hospital at the Guindy based Kings Institute premises and it would have 13 departments including radiology and diagnosis. The hospital would come up on 4 acres of land and it would have 5.5lakh square feet.
