Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that a new low-pressure zone is developing over the Bay of Bengal today (Wednesday, 24th November).

As such, IMD has informed that there are prospects for heavy rains in the districts of Thirunelveli and Kanyakumari.

IMD has explained that the cyclonic format prevailing over the South Bay of Bengal is likely to transform into a low-pressure zone. This may drift towards the west and northwest and may approach the Tamil Nadu coast in the next few days.

Because of this, there are prospects for heavy rain with lightning and thunder in the districts of Thirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukkudi, Kanyakumari and the delta districts today (Wednesday, 24th November).

Subsequently, there are prospects for heavy to very heavy rain in a few places in the districts of Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Ranippettai tomorrow (Thursday, 25th November).

During the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), there are prospects for heavy to very heavy rain with lightning and thunder in 1 or 2 places in the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu.

As regards Chennai Metro City, IMD has informed us that the sky will remain mostly cloudy.

With a warning having been issued for very heavy rain, Tamil Nadu State Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is conducting a special review meeting regarding the encountering of the rain effects with all the district collectors today (Wednesday, 24th November).

The Chief Minister will participate through a video conference from the Tamil Nadu State Government Chief Secretariat.

Tamil Nadu State Government Chief Secretary V. Iraiyanbu, Public Department Secretary Jagannathan, and other Departmental Officials are participating in this meeting.

It is expected that the Chief Minister will advise the district collectors to be well-prepared to face the effects of the excess rain by devoting extra efforts on this issue and initiating activities to ensure that the public does not face any hardships because of the rain.
