Chennai Heavy downpour echo: Greater Chennai Corporation releases an important announcement for the citizens!

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has issued guidelines for the citizens to adhere to in the season of very heavy rains!
Precautionary activities to prevent the adverse effects of excessively heavy rains are being expedited and implemented in Chennai Metro City by GCC.
GCC administration has recommended the citizens and families keep stock of essential grocery items.
Apart from this, Greater Chennai Corporation has released some guidelines for the citizens to strictly adhere to on rainy days. Here are these guidelines:
- Boil water, cool and drink - this would prevent being affected by diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, jaundice, and typhoid.
- On occasions - before intake of food and after using the toilet, follow the habit of washing hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap.
- When venturing out of the residence, wear your footwear. While returning to the residence, remember to wash hands thoroughly every time!!
- Apart from the CMWSSB (Chennai Metro Water and Sewerage Board) timings of releasing water, AVOID DRINKING THE STAGNANT WATER IN THE PUMPS!
- Avoid eating food items being sold at road/street-side shops where it is very likely for the food items sold to be deposited with dust as well mosquitoes and flies around
- Eat home-prepared food items rather immediately after preparation when they are still hot! Avoid eating old food items!
- Avoid defecating/urinating in open spaces - USE ONLY THE PUBLIC TOILETS!
- In case affected with fever or diarrhoea, visit the nearest Government Primary health Centres and consult the doctor and have treatment. PLEASE DO NOT INDULGE IN SELF-MEDICATION!
- In case affected by loose motion / vomitting, etc., frequently drink a solution of water mixed with a pinch of salt and sugar or other drinks available in the house. REMEMBER TO VISIT THE DOCTOR AT ONCE!
- REMEMBER TO THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE OVERHEAD OR UNDERGROUND SUMPS USED FOR STORING WATER WITH BLEACHING POWDER, DRY THE STORAGE COMPLETELY BEFORE REUSE!
- Remove all items which provide scope for water stagnation and thus prevent mosquito breeding.
- To maintain a good healthy clean environment, keep the residential area and the surrounding areas clean!
