Rains unlikely in Chennai, thunderstorms to continue in TN for a week

It has been informed by the RMC or Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai that the thunderstorms would continue for a week in the state of Tamil Nadu. Certain districts in Tamil Nadu would have gusty winds also.

On Tuesday, 13th April 2021, thunderstorms with moderate rains were witnessed over the districts of The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Theni, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanniyakumari etc. Places like Arani had 53mm rainfall, Cheyyar 40mm, Pappireddipatti 6mm, Kodaikanal 5mm and Nagerkoil 4mm.

According to an official belonging to the Regional Meteorological Centre, there would be thunderstorms along with gusty winds in parts of TN in the next 48 hours. He added that thunderstorms with lightning associated with gusty winds reaching 30 to 40kmph are expected to occur at the isolated places in TN on 13th and 14th April.

There would be heavy rains in isolated places over The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Tirupattur on 14th April. In the coming week, the rest of TN would have dry weather only. The rains are unlikely in Chennai and this was pointed out by some weather bloggers. They have also mentioned that the pre-monsoon showers might affect other northern coastal districts.
