Rains in Chennai in the next week

Posted on: 12/Sep/2020 9:08:10 AM
In the last few days, the core places in Chennai were humid and overcast whereas the fringes of Chennai city like Tambaram, Medavakkam, Ambattur etc received some spells of rain. This has surprised many now.

It is now revealed by the weathermen that the core localities in the Chennai city would have a cloudy weekend. After 13th September, there would be some rains before the formation of a low pressure area near Andhra Pradesh coast. This was confirmed by the weather enthusiasts.

According to a forecast from the Regional Meteorological Centre or RMC, the condition of the sky is likely to be generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 35 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively in the next 48 hours of time. Favourable wind convergence closer to the coast was the reason behind the forecast of light rains in the Chennai city over the past few days.

From 1st June 2020 onwards, Nungambakkam registered 190.6mm of rains and Meenambakkam had recorded 429.7mm of rains. The average rainfall that is expected is 147.7mm in Chennai city but the city had just 10mm of rains this month. There would be light to moderate rains at isolated places over several districts in TN such as Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur on 13th September and 14th September.

As per IMD regional weather inference, there could be rains due to the low pressure area that is likely to form over west central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh Coast around 13th of September.
