Posted on: 07/Sep/2020 4:25:50 PM
The passengers either moving from Chennai to other districts/states or those who arrive in Chennai Metro City after a journey from other districts/states must observe and follow a few things as under:

With the permission granted by the State Government of Tami Nadu, the public transport between the districts commenced operating from last Monday. Around 4000 passengers have reserved for journeys.

Though operation buses have started from the Chennai Metro City Koyambedu Terminus, the shops in the Bus Terminus Complex is yet to be opened. So, it is advisable that the passengers bring certain essential items such as drinking water.  This would prevent the hardship faced while finding the shop`s closed after arriving at the Koyambedu Bus Terminus without essential items.

Note that the passengers MUST follow the guidelines announced by the state government for the safety of themselves as well as the other passengers.

In Tamil Nadu, generally more than 19000 buses were being operated in normal conditions by various 7 government transport corporations in different districts including Kumbakonam and Salem.

With the break-out of the raging coronavirus pandemic and the preventive measure of the imposition of lockdown conditions, public transport services were withdrawn Ony essential services were operated on a contract basis.

Meanwhile, though permission was granted for public transport in June, the buses did not operate in 4 districts in Tamil Nadu including Chennai.

In this situation, with subsequent further relaxations during the next phase of lockdown, al the Public Transport Corporations in the State of Tami Nadu have commenced their operations throughout Tami Nadu.

Following the Government Order, the safety/precautionary arrangements          as per the guidelines regarding cleanliness, an inspection of fuel, technology, etc., were being taken up in order to resume full-fledged operations  from Monday (today, 7th September)

The various guidelines given by the Tamil Nadu State Government in this regard – such s switching the air-conditioners off, the mandatory wearing of face masks, using sanitizers/disinfectants, using the entrance and exit doors properly, thermal scanning of the bus operating staff, etc., are strictly being followed while operating the buses.

Only 32 passengers will be allowed in the Mofussil buses and 24 in local city buses. In express buses, only 26 passengers will be allowed.

Buses will not be operated to other states.

The crowd of passengers was not that much in the buses operated between the districts. So, even if all the buses were in ready condition, the buses are being operated as per the demand as per the number of passengers.

As regards the express buses, it has been planned to operate over 500 buses from Chennai to other places and the other paces to Chennai. There is no change in the fare.

Guidelines:

As for the passengers, those with symptoms of fever/cold WILL NOT BE allowed to travel.

The conductors must regularly advise the passengers to observe the social distancing.

The Ticket Examiner, apart from detecting those travelling without tickets, must also monitor the observation of the guidelines such as keeping social distancing.

Night travel: As the drivers, as well as the buses, were not operating during the nights over the last 5 months, the drivers MUST BE ESPECIALLY cautious driving the buses in the night.

Especially from 12.00 Midnight to 4.00 AM, the conductors should be on their seats while keeping the drivers alert and awake and drive cautiously.

As there are traffic congestions and speed-breakers especially in the city areas, the drivers need to be extra-conscious.

Thus, arrangements with precautionary actions have been made as above. The officials request that the passengers as well, on their side, must follow all the above guidelines on their own to ensure safe and fast travel.

4000 reservations: The reservations for the long-distance express buses started on Friday, 4th September. Out of this, more than 4000 passengers have reserved for journeys starting on 7th September (Monday) and over 2000 passengers have reserved for travel on Tuesday (8th September).
