Don’t be surprised to see Coronavirus patients sent from Apollo Hospitals to Lemon Tree hotel of Manapakkam or Ginger hotel of Vadapalani and Kauvery Hospitals sending patients to Mylapore based Hotel Clarion. These three budget hotels belonging to Chennai would open soon for doing totally different activities.

The threat of Coronavirus infection has led to the closure of these 3 hotels in Chennai and now after a few months these hotels would be re-opened as COVID care centres for patients with no or mild symptoms. Important information is Kauvery Hospitals and Apollo Hospitals have been permitted to allow isolation in private and dual occupancy rooms for a cost.

As per the tariffs committed by the hospitals to the government, the cost of care in these hotels would be Rs 2500 to Rs 7000 per day. Dr S. Guruanathan, DMS, was of the opinion that these centres could monitor and supervise patients but cannot treat them. He shed light on some healthy and young people who might not be able to stay in home isolation for the lack of caregivers or they have vulnerable people.

At present, there are more than 25 places in Chennai where the government provides isolation facilities. These places are CTC Nandambakkam, newly constructed housing blocks of TNSCB, colleges etc inside the city. In these places, boarding and lodging are free for a time of 2 weeks later the patients get discharged.

It was revealed by Apollo Group JMD, Sangita Reddy that the hospital would collect charges between Rs 2500 and Rs 3000 and it would include 3 meals per day. A nurse would be stationed at the hotel to collect vitals twice a day. She hinted that there would be video-consultation with the doctor daily.

Information is according to the Kauvery Hospitals protocol, at the fever clinic of the hospital patients would be evaluated and then shifted to care centres.
