Today, 2nd July 2020 is a very important day in Tamil Nadu. The reason for that is today TN completes 100 days of lockdown.

When the Coronavirus infection began in the last week of March in TN handling the patient was very difficult. There were many incidents of infected persons and their relatives picked up and monitored by PPE clad health workers. This was followed by their streets barricaded with iron.

In the last 100 days, the number of Coronavirus positive cases increased in Chennai city and in TN. It has now become common to witness the above said incidents and dealing with Corona has become the new normal now. Understanding the Coronavirus and the effects of lockdown better has been done in the past 3 months. This was as per some senior officials.

It must be noted that TN has been spending above Rs 100 crores per month just for testing and tracking Coronavirus patients. This has burnt a deep hole into the TN exchequer. Another Rs 80 crores have been spent on logistics and local body expenditures. On Wednesday, PWD had sanctioned an amount of Rs 75 crores for the sake of improving the infrastructure of government hospitals.

Health secretary, Mr. J. Radhakrishnan explained how by lockdown TN was able to control the spread of Covid-19 infection. He revealed that the demand brought about by Coronavirus pandemic was higher than the demand brought about other issues like dengue etc. He added that advancements in medicine have resulted in increased recovery rates in TN.
