State engineering colleges to increase employability of students

Posted on: 17/May/2013 2:24:39 PM
Engineering colleges in the State have come up with a two – point solution to the rising unemployability among engineering graduates in Tamilnadu. They will start working on the basics to minimize arrears and also expose the students to skill development courses.

Speaking about this, Secretary of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions Dr. V. Rhymend Udayaraj said, ‘Many Plus 1 students tend to ignore subjects such as mathematics, while focusing on the Plus-two syllabus, and come a cropper in math-related subjects during engineering… This was leading to a large number of arrears, denting the prospects of students during placement interviews. To subvert this, a link-bridge course on mathematics, of about 25-30 periods, would be introduced to all first-year students. The syllabus for the course would be up online, so that students can begin early preparations. In addition, skill development programmes would be introduced to second-year students, which would stand them in good stead during the interviews.’
