The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that the recently formed cyclone Amban initially lost intensity and weakened; however, subsequently, it has intensified strong and transformed into a violent cyclone.

This cyclone Amban is centred in the Bay of Bengal. Yesterday, it intensified into a very severe cyclone and stabilized around the central Bay of Bengal and the adjacent South Bay of Bengal.

Subsequently, it has transformed into a ‘super-cyclone’ and drifted towards north and northeast and tends to move towards West Bay of Bengal.

Generally, as the cyclone format crosses the coast, it tends to weaken. However, in this instance, it was told the cyclone Amban WILL NOT LOSE ITS INTENSITY even while crossing the coast. Especially, this cyclone has been categorised as converted into a ‘super-cyclone’!

However, recently the cyclone started losing intensity slightly and has stabilized.

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that presently the cyclone Amban is situated 7000 km southwest of Kolkata stabilized over the west-central ocean

It further informed that this cyclone will continue to drift towards the northeast and will cross the coast tomorrow (Wednesday, 20th May). Hence, cyclonic winds will blow in the West-central and south-central parts of the ocean. The Chennai Meteorological Centre has warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea for fishing in the next 2 days.
