The sensational piece of news that has emerged out now is on Tuesday, 30th April 2019, Chennai city experienced the hottest day in the year 2019.The important point here is the mercury touched 40.1 degree Celsius on Tuesday and made the lives of Chennai residents very difficult.

It is now revealed that this was the second time in the last decade that the temperature touched 40 degrees Celsius in the month of April. Previously the city of Chennai recorded a temperature of 40.8 degree Celsius on 23rd April 2016 is known.

On Tuesday, the day was cloudy in the morning and later the City faced scorching heat as the temperatures went several notches above the average temperature. The weather station in Meenambakkam recorded 40.2 degree Celsius and that was 4 degree Celsius above average.

There was great degree of discomfort for the residents of Chennai yesterday as the relative humidity was 79% in Nungambakkam and 70 % in Meenambakkam. In many places like Vellore, Tiruttani, Trichy etc the temperature went beyond 40 degree mark.

It was pointed out by Mr. Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology that the variations in the temperatures occurred when the weather systems were active in the Bay of Bengal. It must be noted that the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ would become extremely severe and the storm would cross Odisha on 3rd May. The point is there might be some possibility of rains in TN State due to feeder bands of the weather system even though the storm has moved away from the TN coast.

As per Mr. Balachandran the maximum temperatures dropped after sometime on Tuesday. He spoke about how the presence of dry westerlies over the region was responsible for the oscillations in the temperatures. The information is the land breeze was strong on Tuesday and this was highlighted by the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’. This brought up a sudden increase in the temperatures yesterday. In the afternoon, the moisture incursion caused by the sea breeze brought down the temperature.
