After renovation, two main areas of T. Nagar to have more space and more secure

Venkatanarayana Road and G.N. Chetty road in T, Nagar are very well known to the residents belonging to Chennai city. People often visit these roads in T. Nagar for shopping etc and find these roads highly congested and not secure.

The latest information is GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has started the work on the pedestrian footpaths of Venkatnarayana Road and G.N. Chetty Road. Important point is street light poles and other obstructions on the footpaths are being removed.

The superb piece of news is the work on the footpath construction would begin near the Panagal Park in a month of time. It would then be connected to pedestrian plaza on the Theyagaraya Road in a month of time. By this renovation or redesigning it is clear that there would not only be continuous footpath but also regulation of parking on the patches.

It was pointed out by Mr. Raj Cherubhai who is the CEO of Smart City that there would be demarcated spaces for parking present ion the streets plus there would be streamlining of the movement of the traffic. He then spoke about how the intersections are also redesigned to be more compact and help the pedestrians to cross the road safer by being more compact. The important piece of information is there are as many as 232 equivalent car spaces on the G.N. Chetty Road and 149 car equivalent spaces on the Venkatnarayana Road. It is well known that Venkatnarayana Road is 1.4 km long extending from Panagal Park to Anna Salai and G.N. Chetty Road is 2.1 km long connecting Panagal Park to Gemini flyover on the Anna Salai.

It is now said that the amount for redesigning work on G.N. Chetty Road is Rs 18 crores and amount for redesigning Venkatnarayana Road is Rs 9 crores. People who visit these roads would soon be surprised to see the presence of seating under the trees, colourful floor patterns, traffic sign boards, pattern games like hopscotch plus some colourful crossings present near the parks and schools.

An engineer expressed his thoughts regarding the renovation of these roads. He spoke about the streets having more greenery now and about the presence of clear markings for parking of vehicles. He explained about the furniture like benches present on the footpaths and also about the underground utility system. An official spoke about how to reduce the traffic congestion and how redesigning of the junctions with traffic island would be carried out.
