Woman lights her own pyre

The Pallavaram police have registered a case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have they found a charred body at the crematorium on Thursday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that it was the body of Sakuntala who lived at Pallavaram and had been abandoned by her children. The 70-year old was left alone after her husband’s death a couple of years ago. Neighbours say that she was dejected and hurt that neither her son nor her daughter wanted to take care of her. She had decided to cremate herself, they said.
‘She said she had nobody to take her to a crematorium if she died. So she wanted to do it herself’, said Prakash, her landlord.
