Prospects of rain with lightning and thunder

The weather bureau has informed that there are prospects of rain with lightning and thunder in a few places in Tamil Nadu due to the phenomenon of thermal convection.
As the southwest monsoon rainy season has spread across the northern states of the country, it has been raining only in the Western Ghat mountain range and the adjacent areas in the Southern states of the country. It has rained double the average expected rainfall in Coimbatore district and one-and-a-half times the expected average rainfall in Theni district.
The director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, S, Balachandran, has informed that a rainfall of double the average expected for this season has been recorded in the district of Tirunelveli as well.
As regards today’s climate (Saturday, 4th August), there are prospects of light rain in a few places due to the thermal convection.
The Chennai Metro City will remain cloudy. Thunderclouds may form during the evening/night sessions leading to sudden rain.
