Met dept: Fishermen in the southern coast must not venture into the sea

The officials of the Chennai Meteorological Centre have informed that the waves in the southern coastal areas will swell up to a height of 4.6 metres in the next 24 hours. So, they have warned that the fishermen in these areas must not venture into the sea.

Strong winds from the South and Southwest directions will blow towards the North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry at speeds of 45 kmph and towards the Tamil Nadu southern coastal areas at speeds of 55 kmph.

Because of the ocean waves in the stretch of the southern coast from Colachal to Dhanushkodi will swell up to heights of 4.6 metres and the waves will be stormy and turbulent.

The ocean in the region between Ramanathapuram and Dhanushkodi and in the nearby low-lying areas will be extremely turbulent and stormy from early morning 1.00 AM to 4.00 AM and then from 2.00 PM to 5.00 PM.

The fishermen are strictly warned not to venture taking out their fishing boats. Otherwise, they have to take preventive action from any damages by anchoring their fishing boats at the right safe distance. The Indian National Institute of Oceanography has warned that the fishermen from the South Tamil Nadu coastal region must not venture into the sea.

There are prospects of medium rain in 1 or 2 places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry due to the phenomenon of thermal convection.

The Chennai Metro City will remain generally cloudy. There are prospects of formation of thunderclouds during the evening or the night sessions leading to mild rain in a few places.
