This symbol is stuck on several articles. You name it – mobile phone, Television, Laptop, Microwave oven, and washing machine – the power symbol can be seen on these gadgets and other electrical and electronic equipment.

The engineers used it during the 2nd World War by creating this system based on the binary system As per binary system, ‘1’ means ‘ON’. ‘0’ means ‘off’.
During the year 1973, the International Electronic Commission (IEC) defined that this symbol must be used to represent power.
The power button symbol is shown on several gadgets. These gadgets operate on 2 positions – on and off. That is why these positions are indicated by 1 and 0.
All varieties of buttons have only these 2 controls and this symbol is used.
