The Election Commission explains: election regulations from today evening

The election campaigns for the Tamil Nadu State legislative Assembly will be closing today (Saturday, 14th May).

So, the Election Commission has imposed some strict regulations to be followed from 6.00 PM this evening.

With the Election Commission following all the rules and regulations to be followed from 48 hours before the election, Chief (Tamil Nadu) Election Commissioner explained these rules and regulations.

As per this, all retail alcoholic beverage shops will remain closed for the next 3 days (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday). These TASMAC shops will remain closed on the votes counting day scheduled on 19th May.

The number of tension-ridden election booths reduced from 9360 to 6300.
94 constituencies have been identified where political big-wigs are contesting where large amounts of money is likely to be spent. Out of these 94, 25 constituencies have been marked as ultra-important.

The security and monitoring in these 25 constituencies have been intensified.

Once the campaigns are closed, no news format, or film format propaganda can be telecast or broadcast. However, there is no restraint on the advertisement in the print media. However, these newspapers with advertisement cannot be uploaded on the internet social networking media, The newspaper items can be shown after removing the advertisements.

Precautionary measures have been taken in case it rains on the election day.

3 voting machines made from paper-cardboard have been seized while they were transported from  Pudhucherry to Thanjavur.

Persons unconnected with the constituency will have to move out. Once the campaigns are over, all lodges, hostels, and marriage halls will be checked thoroughly.

There are 60000 polling booths in Tamil Nadu. TANGEDCO has taken the necessary steps to ensure continuous power supply for these booths.Continuous power availability is a very critical requirement as the voting is done on Electronic Voting Machines.

So, continuous power availability has been ensured in all the polling booths and vote counting centres.

The Director of electrical power distribution Mr. Pandi informed the reporters that all arrangements have been made to ensure continuous power supply. In case of a power failure due to rain or other reasons, EB staff is in a ready state to to restore power immediately.

The telephone number of the electrical engineer in the substation in the polling booth are will be given to to the polling booth officers. So, in case of any problem, they can quickly get in touch to get it attended.

There will be 68 vote counting centres in the state of Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, vote counting centres have been set up in places like Anna University, Loyola College, and Queen Mary’s College.
