Soon, bike ambulances in Chennai

The Tamil Nadu Health Department will soon launch bike ambulances around the State. The initiative is to help work their way through traffic and deliver quicker first aid.
The first phase of the project will be launched in Chennai, followed by Kumbakonam in February during the Mahamaham festival. According to a senior official, The initiative is aimed at enhancing the response time to help victims stuck in congested areas.
The golden hour principle is essential while dealing with road accidents. In urban areas, precious time is lost in traffic and at times the victim loses his or her life. A bike ambulance could be the game changer... The bikes would carry medical supplies and the rider would administer crucial emergency care until a regular ambulance arrives.
The bike rider will be trained paramedic. The paramedic is expected to reach the accident spot within minutes of receiving information and provide basic first aid and resuscitation to the victim... The paramedic on the bike will administer first aid. If the injured person or the patient is fit to travel on a motorcycle, he or she would be taken to the nearest hospital on the two-wheeler.
