Posted on: 09/Dec/2015 12:49:40 PM
Supply of meat and vegetables has taken a hit in the flooding and rain. As a result, prices of some products have skyrocketed. Potatoes, for example, are going for as high as Rs. 100 per kg in some shops.

Residents across the city have reported uneven prices. For example, potatoes costed Rs. 70 per kg in Alwarpet, Rs. 80 per kg in Kodambakkam and Ashok Nagar, Rs. 100 per kg in some other parts of the city.

A member of there Koyambedu Wholesale Traders Association said, The wholesale rate is also around Rs 20 per kg. The price of beans has gone up dramatically . French beans and drumsticks are also as high as Rs 100 per kg. I don`t understand how retail prices can be so high.

People decided to stock up a couple of days ago and that pushed up mutton prices. The supply price itself was high and consumers ended up paying Rs 600 per kg. The price has dropped a bit since then but is still higher than normal. Skinned chicken is marked at Rs. 200 per kg, she said, but chicken prices have been rising for a while now, said a resident
of Kodambakkam.

A resident from Mambalam said, A couple of days ago, I purchased 1kg of ladies finger for Rs 70. Today I had to pay Rs 100 per kg. The price of beans, peas and carrots too were higher.
